Weekly Devotion: When You Don’t Know What To Do – Surrender

Most of 2015, there was a specific thing my husband and I prayed for. We spoke it, and believed God would do it in 2016. Well, it happened, BUT it does not look anything like we imagined.

I think God has a sense of humor because He gave us what we wanted, or so we thought. We didn’t count the cost of what it would mean for this thing to happen. We didn’t think through what our life would look like if it happened.

Now we’re here and I don’t quite understand how it’s all going to work out. My husband, on the other hand, is at peace. He keeps telling me, it’s going to work out exactly as God planned, just surrender.

I’m a planner, so that is sometimes hard for me. But, one thing I KNOW and BELIEVE is true is Romans 8:28,

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

I’ve tried and tried to figure it out, plan it out, work it out, etc. It’s gotten me nowhere but frustrated, discouraged and confused. I’m done!

Lord, I SURRENDER to whatever you’re doing! I want YOUR will to be done, not mine. (Luke 22:42)

I’m not suggesting that you don’t try to plan and figure things out, BUT you have to know when something is out of your control. When that happens, SURRENDER (agree to stop fighting, hiding, resisting, etc., because you know that you will not win or succeed)

So this week, if you find yourself in a situation too heavy for you, and you don’t know what else to do, take a deep breath, SURRENDER and trust God!

SURRENDERing your life means:

Following God’s lead without knowing where he’s sending you;

Waiting for God’s timing without knowing when it will come;

Expecting a miracle without knowing how God will provide;

Trusting God’s purpose without understanding the circumstances. Rick Warren

Have a blessed day and an awesome week!

    Surrender can be so hard- it takes so much maturity to pray sincerely “Your will be done” – It’s something that I’m still praying for and working towards. Thanks for the encouraging post!

    • You are not alone. I am still working on it too. Here lately, every time I feel myself picking a situation back up, I speak out loud, “Lord I surrender. Your will be done.” Yes, it is hard but there is so much peace when we finally do. Let go and trust God with the consequences . That is for me too. Be blessed! 🙂
