Not A Moment Too Soon!

The Urbane FlowerI have never hosted a guest blogger on The Jolly Moments until today.  I am really excited to introduce to you all, Heather G., the creator of TheUrbaneFlower.com.  Heather created her blog after being prompted to tell her story. Instead, she created the platform to encourage other women to share the goodness of God in their lives, in faith, so that we all could encourage one another. You can follow Heather on Facebook and Twitter @TheUrbaneFlower. I pray you all are blessed by what she shared below.

“When I moved to Columbus, GA, (known as the Valley) in 2008, I thought it was like a scene from the Andy Griffin show… you know, Mayberry. It had the feel of an old established country town. I settled in pretty easily (continuing my career as a Social Worker, meeting new friends, etc.), but I was in for a rude awakening. Continue reading

Finish Strong

Finish StrongThis past weekend I decided to flip through some old journals and quickly noticed a recurring theme throughout. Almost every year I wrote about a particular dream that God placed on my heart years ago as a teenager.

As I read journal after journal, I realized here I am at the start of a new year and I have yet to accomplish that dream.

Interestingly enough, I encouraged others in the past to face their fears and move forward, but failed to follow my advice. Continue reading

The Greatest Gift

1 Corinthians 13I attended an intimate event last night so beautiful, I just had to share.

The invitation itself indicated this would be something unique. The host did not request anything, except our presence at her event.  She specifically requested no one bring a gift.

The host treated her guests to a four-course meal at an upscale restaurant.  We received the best of everything. Continue reading

He Loves Me Anyway

But you love me anywayToday potentially could have ended in a bad way.

Although I did not like what happened, I had peace throughout the day because I know that no matter what, God loves me.

On days like this, I thank God that I am secure in His love for me.  I believe that someone needs a reminder that YOU ARE LOVED. Continue reading

The Heart of the Matter

What God Knows QuoteIn recent months, I have had a difficult time dealing with a certain person.

My inability, and lack of desire, to interact with this person began to cause an issue with a person I am at peace with.

Finally, after many harsh words spoken, a lot of confusion and tears, I had to realize that all this time this situation was never about the other person.

It was always about me. Continue reading

Silent Courage

SILENT COURAGE It has been awhile since I posted anything. Two days after my last post, a family member died unexpectedly.

In those moments immediately following her death, one thing I forgot is that “hurting people, hurt people.” Therefore, instead of having a disciplined response to the anger and drama directed at me by someone who was clearly hurting, I reacted. Continue reading

What Are You Waiting For: The Time Is Now

What Are You Waiting For_Time Is NowWe can always find a reason why not to embark upon something that has been tugging at us.

We say we are waiting for the “perfect” moment or “perfect” timing to make the move.

But, what is the “perfect” moment? When is the “perfect” time?

Are you waiting for the “perfect” day, the “perfect” spouse, the “perfect” job, the “perfect” weight, or the “perfect” amount of money in your bank account? Continue reading

Hope Deferred…

Hope DefferedHope is defined as, “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best”.

We have all hoped for something. There are times that the thing in which we hoped for manifests in our lives. Then sometimes our hopes turn into disappointments. Continue reading

Live With Purpose On Purpose!

Live With Purpose on PurposeLast night I could not sleep so I decided to browse around on a social media site.  I came across a page dedicated to getting justice for a 22 year-old female who was recently shot and killed by police officers.

My heart goes out to her three-year-old son who woke up today, as he will everyday for the rest of his life, without his mother.

There are conflicting stories as to what actually happened.  I am not writing to debate what did or did not happen.

I just want to remind everyone today how precious this life is that we have been blessed with. We should not take it for granted. Continue reading

The Healing Power of Kindness

The Healing Power of Kindness 2“The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed;  those who help others are helped.” Proverbs 11:25

The restaurant was crowded, but it was an all-you-can-eat buffet, so I should have expected it.

The table in front of me had four children sitting alone.  Their mother sat at the table next to them.  Consumed with the man sitting next to her, she paid no attention to what her children were doing.

I watched as these children brought plates of rolls, bowls of ice cream and plates of dessert to the table.  Without touching any of it, they left for more. Continue reading
